I am no art major, just a veterinary student, but I thought this book was well written and interesting! In 75 concise pages, it tells the story of British painter George Stubbs' professional life, with many examples of his work on almost every page. The only part I disagreed with was the final chapter, where the author seems to indicate that Stubbs' final (unfinished) work, his Comparative Anatomy publication, is now considered "ludicrous", but I beg to differ! Comparative anatomy is taught today, and it is one of life's amazing discoveries to find (via dissection) how similar a dog is to a horse, a horse to a cat, a cat to a man, etc. Whether one believes in evolution or God Almighty, whoever is in charge of this world had one fabulous blueprint for life and pretty much stuck with it while designing the species. Stubbs understood that. Go Stubbs!
